The Wall of Badu

“So the most natural thing to me is to stay as pure to or real to or close to who I am as possible.”
. . .
“Be you. Make sure you’re saying something when you’re saying something. It’s important to sound like you, to feel like you, to be like you. Be you.”
. . .
“If you want to feel me, better be divine. Bring me water, water for my mind. Give me lovin, breathe love in my air. Don’t abuse me, cause these herbs are rare.”
Erykah Badu

Rudy, Oh Rudy [Sleepless Chronicles]

So since I can’t sleep, I decided YouTube would be my best entertainment for the night. I log on and immediately without thinking type in the name Rudy Francisco. Lord do I love this man. The way he formulates and gives birth to words and phrases makes my heart flutter and my mind wonder. See Mr. Francisco is a poet. But his statements should be sonograms into the souls of many, there is not a word that he utters or composes that cannot be found relatable.

Time ticks and I soon find myself watching poem after poem. Spending a bit more time than I should and by the time I decided to blog I must have watched about 5 or 6 poems.

See Rudy and I are not strangers. I have been a fan of his poetry ever since I first listened to his Love poem. I will be sure to add the video, just so you know what I am talking about and that you can begin to feel how I felt. He makes me want to start writing again. His delivery is impeccable I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I have.  I think I may actually do poetry reviews on here. Just a thought.

Love this one, Tell me what you think :👇

And here’s the extended version:👇

Quotes from Rudy Francisco’s Love Poem Medley

“See I heard love was blind, so I write all my poems in Braille.”

“I’d write about how you have the audacity to be beautiful
Even on days when everything around you is ugly”

Baby You’re A Firework!

“Baby you’re a Firework, C’mon show them what you’re worth” – Katy Perry, Firework

Confidence. The most attractive thing a woman can possess. The ability to love yourself is striking and instantly gives you a conquering feeling.  Today however, the society we live in makes it incredibly hard to keep a poker face to the trends and ‘say-so’s’ of the world. The media constantly inputs and image of what you should look like, how you should dress, what you should eat, etc. People say to ignore it, but lets get real, whether we like it or not the media still affects the way we perceive ourselves. Take music for example.

Music has a lot to do subconsciously, about how we feel and what we think. Many female artists for instance, who sing either soulful or raunchy lyrics, personify this sex appeal that is intoxicating and downright confident in their music videos. Whether they have curves like BeyoncĂ© or a slim figure like JhenĂ© Aiko, these artists have to own the skin they’re in or else no one will even so much as take a second glance at them or their music videos.

So whats the trick? Fake it till you make it I guess.

If you go through the actions long enough it will become routine. Find something about yourself that you love or something that you can do better than the next girl. Competition is good. Do away with all that fake stuff. Stop pretending to be someone that you aren’t, nothing is more attractive than being real.

Yes, I know I just told you to “fake it till’ you make it”, but that was, let’s say a… push in the right direction. Talking about the issue never solves it, taking action almost always yields results. Faking confidence allows you to see that there is something to actually be confident about. 9 times out of 10, the aspect of your look, personality, or talent that your “faking” is actually a hidden jewel you never gave a chance.

People struggle, and us ladies do have it a bit tough, but at the end of the day its a normal thing. Consider it a challenge because no one can do you better than you. You’re a firework! Someone is always watching for your next step and admiring the ‘pizazz’ you think you lack…

…So give them a show you’re worth the look.

Long Distance

Long distance relationships are always tough, and many people avoid them for that same reason. It seems as though people are afraid of the commitment that comes with maintaining a relationship over state or even country borders. As life puts lovers in a boxing ring of trials and tribulations it is often hard for the people in the relationship to stay true to one another. Distance in a relationship can present a very different variable. Think of it this way,  communication or the lack there of as well as vocal tone become essential issues. Little things such as phone call dates and missed calls become the beginning and ending of your day. Everything that is communicated is done over phone calls or video chat agents such as Skype, Oovoo, or FaceTime.

Honestly, Video Chatting is your best option.
Honestly, Video Chatting is your best option.

Conversation allows an individual to learn a great deal about their partner because sometimes it is easier to communicate over a text or phone call rather than in person. However, I can not deny that the relationship would be missing the physical piece of the puzzle. No, I’m not speaking of the “cuddling” touch but just touch in general, the ability to witness the nonverbal bodily actions which are also very important to the relationship. A phone call hides facial expression and body language, whereas a video chat doesn’t provide enough. Ever heard of the saying “Actions speak louder than words.” Many people who have it, tend to take the nonverbal part of the relationship for granted whereas someone who doesn’t, longs for the simple holding of hands or just the feeling of that person with them.

All in all, the most important things about a relationship—whether in or across borders—are trust and putting in work. A relationship is a commitment, one that requires work of the highest degree.Think of it as a plant or a child; if the relationship is not nourished it doesn’t flourish or reap the results you desire. It is important to remember that no matter how petty or deep the situation that work can be done to resolve or better the problem. As long as there is trust and love the work can be done, equally that is.

Relationships in of themselves are hard, just don’t make them a chore; instead they should be fun, spontaneous and entertaining. There’s always an unequal pull of weight in a relationship but working at it makes it balanced. The weight may be in personality traits for example, where one person is more realistic and uptight and the other is relaxed and spontaneous. But that is okay, because sometimes it is alright to step out your comfort zone; after all that’s why you picked him/her right? Because they fill in in grey areas? Relax, at the end of the day if it is meant to be it will happen.
